Writer-performer team, Trott and Jennings present The Astonishing Adventures of Kitty and Peg, a rollicking farce. Step back in time to 1745, backstage at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. This hilarious period double act brings to life the real stars of the era: English sensation Kitty Clive, famed for her powerful voice and being the first to sing “Rule Britannia,” and Irish firecracker Peg Woffington, known for her daring male roles and alluring legs. Their desperate antics include spreading fake news, staging a dramatic brawl, and unintentionally poisoning the famous cross-dressing puppeteer-turned-butcher, Charlotte “Mr Brown” Charke. Will Kitty and Peg reclaim their jobs, face the gallows, or will the public’s fascination with True Crime secure their fame?  If you like fast paced comedies like Upstart Crow, Austentatious, or the Play That Goes Wrong, and want a good night out, this show is for you. Don’t miss this fast-paced, irreverent, and cheeky romp filled with mischief and mayhem – and, there’s women wrestling!

About The Show

The success of Trott and Jennings’ show, Hendrix and Handel, for Sky Arts, was a springboard to creating this piece for Kitty Clive, who featured as a character in their TV comedy. Now she’s centre-stage, in a play that takes inspiration from both her life history, and how many of us live now – in a social media vortex. As for Peg Woffington, it’s possible she appeared to Jennings as a ghost one lockdown night. The play was developed during an artist’s residency at Morley College in 2023. It had a sell-out week-long run at the Hen and Chickens, London, in January 2024, with extra performances at Morley College Theatre. With support from Proteus Theatre, as Associate Artists for 2025/26, the show will be opening in Basingstoke, before touring nationally
